2023 Speaker Bio
Elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2022, His Worship, Dan Carter is serving his second term as Mayor of Oshawa. Before becoming Oshawa’s Mayor, he served as a City and Regional Councillor. At the Region of Durham, he currently serves as a member of the Health and Social Services Committee and the Police Services Board.
Active in community development initiatives, Mayor Carter lends his time to many philanthropic endeavours and has a deep commitment to making a difference to those in need.
Mayor Carter takes his role as Mayor of Oshawa to heart and feels blessed that he has been given a second term to serve and help people in his community. He is committed to leading in a way that will bring out the best in others and be the light that brings hope, optimism, and pride to the city.
2023 Musician Bio
Tenor Colin Ainsworth has distinguished himself both internationally and at home with opera companies with his exceptional singing and diverse repertoire including the Canadian Opera Company, Seattle Opera, Chicago Opera Theater, Glimmerglass Opera, Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, Greek National Opera, Vancouver Opera, and the Royal Opera (London). His many performances have included the title roles in Roberto Devereux and Albert Herring; Lensky in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Alfredo in Verdi’s La Traviata, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Nadir in Les Pêcheurs de perles, and Tom Rakewell in The Rake’s Progress.
Also a prolific concert singer, Mr. Ainsworth has appeared with the Montreal Symphony, Toronto Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Philharmonia Baroque, Music of the Baroque, at Carnegie Hall with the American Symphony Orchestra, and Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra.
